I was planning on calling them an scheduling a service while I'm there. I was thinking it might be fun to visit as many of them as I can even if I don't need anything from them. Knowing where the dealers are on the route is a great idea. I'm ordering the Stop n Go tire plug kit. The things that I don't have yet will be easy to pick up before the trip. I've been searching the forums and found a great list that Greasy put together for tools to keep with the scooter. With luck, I hope to keep the wrenching to a minimum. You'll find that they will wear faster than normal with the scooter loaded down with gear (it would be a good idea to have a plan to change them out if needed- maybe send a set to your sister's place). Make sure your tires are relatively new when you start your trip. I'd recommend bringing a spare belt and a couple of exhaust gaskets (if you have a stock exhaust).Īlso, if you don't already have one, I'd recommend a tire plug kit. Also, know where the dealers near your route are. Even if you aren't planning to work on your own scooter, having the right parts with you may save some time (not all dealers stock parts). Not sure what your plans are for wrenching (if needed), but I'd recommend bringing a few common tools and consumables with you in case of a break down. This should take care of the seat discomfort and reduce fatigue on long days. I bought an Airhawk seat pad, the wide mid-size faco screen, and the 15oz bar ends from Jettin. I made some changes after a 500 mile over night trip last year. I plan on at least one shake down overnight trip to get the gear finalized. If anyone has suggestions for detours to a "must visit" road or attraction I would welcome them. I have enough flexibility at work that I could stretch it a day or two to accommodate the unexpected. Roughly, the route there is: Madison to Chicago on hwy14, to Fort Wayne on hw圓0, Columbus and Athens OH on hw圓3, Parkersburg WV to Washington D.C. I've been slowly gearing up and experimenting with longer rides, but what I'm planning is a big step up in difficulty.I wanted to get some advice from the community.
